Internet Addiction in Many Ways

Internet Addiction in Many Ways
By: Nimrod Salawad
Internet Addiction describes as an impulse control disorder, which does not involve use of an intoxicating drug and is very similar to pathological gambling.  Some Internet users may develop an emotional attachment to on-line friends and activities they create on their computer screens. Internet users may enjoy aspects of the Internet that allow them to meet, socialize, and exchange ideas through the use of chat rooms, social networking websites, or "virtual communities."   Other Internet users spend endless hours researching topics of interest Online or "blogging".  Blogging is a contraction of the term "Web log", in which an individual will post commentaries and keep regular chronicle of events.  It can be viewed as journaling and the entries are primarily textual.
Similar to other addictions, those suffering from Internet addiction use the virtual fantasy world to connect with real people through the Internet, as a substitution for real-life human connection, which they are unable to achieve normally.
Internet addiction results in personal, family, academic, financial, and occupational problems that are characteristic of other addictions.  Impairments of real life relationships are disrupted as a result of excessive use of the Internet.  Individuals suffering from Internet addiction spend more time in solitary seclusion, spend less time with real people in their lives, and are often viewed as socially awkward. Arguments may result due to the volume of time spent on-line.  Those suffering from Internet addiction may attempt to conceal the amount of time spent on-line, which results in distrust and the disturbance of quality in once stable relationships.
Some suffering from Internet addiction may create on-line personas or profiles where they are able to alter their identities and pretend to be someone other than himself or herself.  Those at highest risk for creation of a secret life are those who suffer from low-self-esteem feelings of inadequacy, and fear of disapproval.  Such negative self-concepts lead to clinical problems of depression and anxiety.
Many persons who attempt to quit their Internet use experience withdrawal including: anger, depression, relief, mood swings, anxiety, fear, irritability, sadness, loneliness, boredom, restlessness, procrastination, and upset stomach.  Being addicted to the Internet can also cause physical discomfort or medical problems such as: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, dry eyes, backaches, severe headaches, eating irregularities, (such as skipping meals), failure to attend to personal hygiene, and sleep disturbance.
How can someone get help? The first step is to determine if there is a problem.  A Certified Addictions Counselor trained in identification and treatment of Internet addiction can effectively perform an assessment to determine what level of care is most appropriate.  For a free confidential assessment, call the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery at (800) 522-3784.  An assessment can be completed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are always welcome.

“I think it's fair to say that personal computers have become the most empowering tool we've ever created. They're tools of communication, they're tools of creativity, and they can be shaped by their user.”—Bill Gates.
The rise of modern technology marks the 21st century—highly developed features for computers have been generated with the purpose of bring tools in making the human life at ease. But in contrary to what the founder of Microsoft had stated, computers, rather than being used as tools of communication and creativity they are being used as tools of crime.
One of which is Copyright Infringement. It is one of the most common cybercrime committed nowadays especially we all have the freedom to access the computer and internet. Our freedom to our own property of works, on the other hand also give ways to thieves to own your work without proper credits which is big no, no to the law.
Another example is the cyberbullying—the top-rated cause of teenage suicide cases.  According to i-SAFE foundation, over 83% of teenagers are being cyberbullied and only 1 out of 10 tells it to their parents or to adults.

So, how do we prevent these events to happen to us? Actually, there’s no prevention to such. The only thing we could do is to avoid stepping into the circle of victimization. How? Choose life, over internet because the real safety lies on your own fingertips.

Cyber bullying, Copyright infringement, Green technology, and Internet addiction are some of the contemporary ICT issues today. But why is that these issues are happening right now? Obviously, we all know the meaning of it but we are still doing these. What can be the disadvantages of these four?
Cyber bullying is when a person uses digital technology such as cellphones, computers and so on to deliberately hurt someone. Some are doing these because of stress or depression. People who experiences cyber bullying may affect their lives. Example, a student has bullied through cyber he/she may not go to school because she/he felt embarrassed. Copyright infringement happens when a person copy the works of others without the permission of the owner. The infringer might be go to jail or pay money to the owner. It depends on how hard his fault is. Computer addiction this is one of the worst problem encountered, especially to the students because of being addicted to computer games and so with social media, they don’t go to school or it might be the reason of their failing grades and also they skip their meals. This can affect their future because instead of studying they play computer games or their mind is in the computer. Green technology one that has a green purpose. It means the technology which is environmentally friendly, developed and used in such a way so that it doesn’t disturb our environment and conserves natural resources. And it is also referred to as environmental technology and clean technology.

Computers can help us in many things but people right now is abusing it. Let’s just use it in a right way and a right manner.

5R's

5 R’s

Generation today is facing many problems like cyber bullying, copyright infringement, green technology and internet addiction. People use their technology as their tool in making their task easier but it also have a negative effect. People use technology to hack or to destroy other people. They are also using technology to sell other people.
Some also are being addicted to the internet especially the teenagers. They are not going to school because they are in computer shop playing. The allowance that they give to them is spending in playing computer. Sometimes internet addiction may cause crime. Too much addiction makes you crazy because you are not already what the reality is and what is not. It may also destroy your eyesight because of too much exposure in the computer and because the radiation.

And with technology we create our environment clean in green if we apply the 5R’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Renew and Responsibility. By applying this, we do a green technology.

“Using computer is good but too much is already different”

In this time other people are expert in hacking any accounts. While the computers are becoming modern other people also are moderning their ways on how to hack an account. In this time there are many contemporary ICT issues such as cyber bullying, copyright, infringement, green technology, and internet addiction and many more. So nowadays we need to be aware about this contemporary ICT issues because hackers can use our names in making crimes. So let us take care on our accounts so that we will not be a victim of it. Nowadays many accounts are already being hacked because they want to steal information or money from the person. Hackers also target companies to disrupt business, create chaos and just be a nuisance.

Copyright infringement is the use of works protected by copyright law without permission. Many people today are addicted on internet most specially the children because today each children already have their own account.

Cyber Bullying

CYBERBULLYING
By: Daryl Clint Tenias
Cyber bullying is the act of harming or harassing via information technology networks in a repeated and deliberate manner.
Using technologies make our work easier but not too much because it will cause something illegal.
The practice of cyber bullying is not limited to children and, while the behavior is identified by the same definition when practiced by adults, the distinction in age groups sometimes refers to the abuse as cyber stalking or cyber harassment. When perpetrated by adults towards adults. Common tactics used by cyber stalkers are performed in public forums, social media or online information sites and are intended to threaten a victim’s earnings, employment, reputation, or safety. Behaviors may include encouraging others to harass the victim and trying to affect a victim and trying to affect a victim’s online participation. Many cyber stalkers try to damage the reputation of their victim and turn other people against them.
Cyber bullying can take place on social media sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and twitter. 93% of young people between the ages of 12 and 17 were online. In fact, youth spend more time with media rather than any single other activity besides sleeping. There are many risks attached to social media sites, and cyber bullying is one of the larger risks. One million children were harassed, threatened or subjected to other forms of cyber bullying on Facebook during the past year.

Cyber bullying can also take place through the use of websites belonging to certain groups to effectively request the targeting of another individual or group. An example of this is the bullying of climate scientists and activists.

The study of contemporary ICT issues in the use of technologies such as cyber bullying, Green Technology, Internet Addiction, and copy right infringement.
Cyber Bullying happens through electronic technology or it is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. This is also include mean text messages or emails, posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profile. When cyber bullying happens, it is important to document and report the behavior so it can be addressed, for example parents and children prevent cyber bullying, together, and they can explore safe ways to use technologies.
Internet addiction occurs through internet gaming, gambling, cybersex, and social networking. According to Dr. Kimberly Young, the first psychologist to document internet addiction, these disorders are similar to impulse control disorders.

Copy right Infringement is the act of violating any of a copy right owner’s. This is also bad because it involves stealing someone’s work and presenting it as one’s own and this is an illegal activity that is punishable by law. Some example of this is downloading movies and music from the internet and copying words.
